Sensex up over 150 pts; Tata Steel rises 4%, rupee strong -- 9 Oct 2015

Tata Steel (4.2 percent), ONGC (2.9 percent), Tata Motors (2.8 percent) and Hindalco (2.8 percent) were top gainers in Nifty.

                               
The market gained strength again with the Sensex rising 173.70 points to 27019.51 and the Nifty climbing 43.80 points to 8173.15. About 1397 shares have advanced, 1215 shares declined, and 136 shares are unchanged on the BSE. Tata Steel (4.2 percent), ONGC (2.9 percent), Tata Motors (2.8 percent) and Hindalco (2.8 percent) were top gainers in Nifty. In sectoral performance as reflected by the respective indices, metals (1.6 percent), capital goods (0.7 percent), IT (0.6 percent) and bank (0.5 percent) gained, while oil & gas (-0.2 percent) and power (-0.2 percent) were under pressure. Apollo Tyres (-4 percent), JSW Energy (-3 percent), Gujarat Pipavav (-3 percent), HPCL (-3 percent) and Mindtree (-2 percent) were the big losers in the midcap space. Other notable laggards included SRF (-2 percent), Ramco Cements (-2 percent), Union Bank (-2 percent), Amara Raja Batt (-2 percent) and Exide Ind (-2 percent).      The rupee was quoting at 64.87 to the dollar, up 18 paise over its previous close. European shares were trading firm with Germany’s DAX up 88 points at 10081, France’s CAC up 38 points at 4714, and UK’s FTSE up 33 points at 6407.
